Beeple

2018-03-26T20:17:17+00:00

Beeple is Mike Winkelmann.

Beeple makes Jaw Dropping Art… Everyday.

A graphic designer from Appleton, Wisconsin, USA. His short films have screened at onedotzero, Prix Ars Electronica, the Sydney Biennale, Ann Arbor Film Festival and many others. He has also released a series of Creative Commons live visuals that have been used by electronic acts such as deadmau5, Skrillex, Avicii, Zedd, Taio Cruz, Tiësto, Amon Tobin, Wolfgang Gartner, and Flying Lotus and many others. Also he did Album cover artwork for the Imagine Dragons rock band.

Artists and great thinkers throughout history have had rigorous daily routines that keep them productive and creative, all the while honing their specific set of skills. One of the impressive things about Winkelmann’s practice is that he switches the tools that he uses to create the images. In 2007, for example, he drew all of his illustrations by hand. In 2012 he used only Adobe illustrator.Lately Beeple uses 3-D modeling and animation program Cinema 4D, his images have that amazing cinematic aspect to them, some in the direction of the science fiction territory.

“Everydays are a great way to take a big project and break it down into smaller pieces to ensure that you stick with it. It’s also a great way to get shitty ideas out of your head because you can quickly try something and see if there is anything really there. I think it also helps with completing work and putting out your work as that’s something a lot of people really struggle with.”…

“There is so much amazing work out there, to me it’s not a matter of finding inspiration, it’s almost a matter of not drowning in it.”
-Beeple
